Okay real talk. Buying, wearing, and experimenting with makeup is all fun and games until your skin has a freak-out and no amount of product is going to cover it up. Skincare can seem tedious and kind of annoying. Believe me I get it! 10 or 11 o’clock rolls around some nights and I’m exhausted. All I want to do is throw on some pjs and get all tucked into bed with my dog. I can’t do that though until my makeup is off and my skin is all clean and refreshed. Sleeping with your makeup on will for sure clog your pores. More often than not you’ll wake up with a not so pleasant little gift (a pimple) on your face. Not to mention your skin feels all crepey and stiff! No one wants premature wrinkles because you didn’t wash off your makeup at night! My nightly skincare routine is very simple. I wanted something quick and efficient so I could get my little behind in bed A.S.A.P. Since I’ve started using this routine nightly, I’ve really noticed a difference in my overall skincare. My skin feels hydrated day in and day out and I don’t ever have a blemish except for that one time a month! All in all, this routine takes about 5-10 minutes tops.Step 1 Taking off your makeup: I live for the Garnier Micellar Water! I really don’t know how I ever took off my makeup before discovering this bad boy. This takes off even the toughest waterproof mascara like a dream! Just soak a cotton pad, hold over your eye for a couple of seconds, and swipe away! The makeup comes off simple as that. I usually use one cotton pad per eye and then two for my face. I love this product because its multipurpose for eye and face makeup. It’s a one stop shop!
Step 2 Tone your skin: No, no not like a hair toner. A toner for your skin is fantastic. I think this is one of the most overlooked skincare steps across the board. A toner after taking your makeup off will get the rest of the dirt and makeup out from your pores. The benefits of a toner are really great! A few quick ones are: it helps to shrink your pores, restores moisture to your skin, provides another protective layer, and balances your skins pH. I love to use the Neutrogena Alcohol Free Toner on an exfoliating cotton pad for a little extra oomph. Trust me when I say your skin will feel fantastic!
Step 3 Apply an eye cream: Eye cream is for everyone! My sister still to this day giggles every time I tell her I’ve run out of my cream. She, like many have that stigma that eye cream is for older women with wrinkles. But it most certainty is not just for them! The skin under your eyes is super delicate. A little too much time in the sun in the summer without proper sun protection and you’ve got some new fine lines under those beauties. An eye cream will help to keep that area very hydrated and protected. If you struggle with darker under eyes like me your eye cream can cater to that as well! As of late, I’ve been loving the Clinque Pep-Start Eye Cream (for some reason Clinque counters don’t sell this; I’ve only found it in Sephora). This product has peptides in it that help to make you look more refreshed and awake than you probably are. I also love the Nourish Organic Eye Treatment cream (you can find this at Whole Foods). This product will not take darkness away but it will nicely hydrate and depuff your undereyes because of the metal tip it has. The metal tip causes a cooling sensation that aids in depuffing. It feels fantastic! That is the only thing I wish the Clinque product had as well. As I tell my sister, it’s never too early to wrinkle prevent or take care of your skin!
Step 4 Apply a moisturizer: At night, is when your skin gets the most breathing time. You’re completely relaxed and not hurrying around, everything can just chill out. Applying a thick layer of moisturizer is ideal, then you can wake up in the morning and have your skin all ready to go! You want a moisturizer that first and foremost is hydrating. Your skin takes a beating throughout the day, at night is the time to replenish it. I really like my First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream. On the tub or tube depending on which you get, it says it is for very dry skin. I don’t have super dry skin but I enjoy this just the same. It doesn’t have any perfumes or dyes in it either so it is perfect for those of you with sensitive skin. Also, this cream is for face and body! I like to use this on my legs as well after I shower. I have very dry skin on the rest of my body and I’ve noticed a world of difference with this cream. Again, multipurpose products! I’m all in for those!
Step 5 Apply a facial oil: Generally, this is not a step I do every night but you most definitely can! A facial oil helps the overall skin cell turnover. It is another layer of hydration, replenishment, and protection. I lovvvve the Cover FX Custom Infusion Drops in A+ Jasmine: Anti-Aging. Again, just because it says anti-aging does not mean it singles out only a certain age group. I only apply a very tiny drop to my fingers, warm it up in my hands, and then apply it directly to my skin. Do not use a whole dropper of it or you’ll look like a grease monkey real quick. The smell of this oil is so nice; it smells like Jasmine (hence the the name). What I most use this for when I don’t feel my skin needs anything a little extra is for blemishes. Applying the oil directly to the blemish is a miracle worker. Due to the anti-aging properties, the skin cell turn over with this oil is incredible. I can apply this to a blemish at night and by the morning it will be a little shrunken memory. It’s a life saver for that time of the month! Cover FX also has three different kinds of oils if anti-aging isn’t for you: calming, hydration, and radiance.
Step 6 Apply a lip balm: Finally, apply your favorite lip balm and hit the hay! Mine is Aquaphor lip balm, nothing special. I have a tube of this stuff everywhere…in all my bags, in my car, on my dresser, on my makeup table. If I truly love something, I’ll buy multiples real quick.
Wearing makeup is a lot of fun! Just remember to still take care of your skin! Have you tried any of these products? What are your thoughts?
