Hello my loves! This week I am bringing to you drugstore madness. All my favorite drugstore products, cool finds, and dupes! Whoop-Whoop!
Let’s tighten up those purse strings and explore the drugstore. I don’t know if it’s just me but I feel like the drugstore can get a pretty bad rap sometimes. Just because you aren’t shelling out fifty smackers for a foundation or highlighter doesn’t mean that it isn’t fantastic! With some of my drugstore finds, I have found that some products work just as well (maybe even better, dare I say it) than some high-end products! My absolute favorite ride or die eye primer ever is from the drugstore and it’s only $4.99.Today, we’re starting with the basics—my favorite drugstore foundations. When I was in high school and just started to wear makeup, I was allured by the beauty aisles of Target. Truthfully, I still am. I can’t go to Target without walking through the makeup section. I have serious FOMO (fear of missing out) when it comes to new product displays. That all being said, I have tried A LOT of drugstore foundations, BB creams, CC creams, you name it.
I’ve narrowed it down to 6 stand out beauties! A range of prices, applications, and finishes. Little reminder: I have mainly dry skin but my t-zone does get oily throughout the day. Let’s get to it!
*For all intents and purposes, I consider the Target beauty aisles to be drugstore. Also, my second home.
I am not a powder foundation wearer but I do lovvvve liquid foundation. Therefore, when cushion foundations struck the market and every company and their brother were pumping out their versions, I needed to try them all. Duh.
L’Oreal True Match Lumi Cushion ($15.99): Pricey little number. This foundation is GORGEOUS! Honestly, I forgot how much I loved this foundation until I was pulling things out of my draw for this post. This is the PERFECT summer foundation. It’s very light weight and you can apply beautiful luminous coverage so easily. Very buildable foundation. You can apply just a little for a sheer coverage or build up to a medium coverage. The foundation does feel a little wet to the touch once you apply it so I do suggest setting it with a powder just so you don’t get foundation on your clothes or collars of your jacket. The foundation is soaked in a cushion so you dip your brush or sponge right on to the cushion to use the product (I like to use a beauty sponge). There are 16 different shades in this range. You can usually find these on sale at Ulta or if you have their $3.50 off coupon or a manufactures coupon you can save some coin! I’ll definitely be repurchasing this for the summer!
Maybelline Dream Cushion Fresh Face Liquid Foundation ($15.99): Wow, say that 5 times fast.
This foundation is really very natural on the skin. Although it claims to be a luminous coverage, I don’t think it is anywhere as luminous as the L’Oreal one. To me, this is more of a natural satin finish foundation. It looks like a “my skin but better” type of foundation. It doesn’t look like you’re wearing makeup really at all. It melts beautifully into the skin and stays on for a long time. I like this foundation for a more day-to-day vibe. It’s very low maintenance. Basically, you put it on, finish whatever else you want to do makeup wise that day and you’re good to go! Unfortunately, there are only 8 shades in this range—bummer! It makes it a little difficult to find the perfect shade.
Wet n Wild Photo Focus Foundation ($5.99): Yes, you read that price correctly! This will probably be one of the cheapest foundations you’ll find at the drugstore. Don’t let the price fool you though! This foundation is BANANAS! It is positively amazeballs. This foundation is particularly cool because of the photo focus technology. Let me ask you, have you ever taken flash photography and then looked at the picture and part of your face has a white-cast whether it be under your eyes from concealer or your whole face because of powder or your foundation? It’s because of the elements in your foundation! SPF can create a white-cast to products which causes them to flash back in photos. HD powders are also huge culprits. This little bottle of magic has light-adjusting complexes that adjust to different lighting to prevent that flashback! I tested it for my own two eyes with different light settings and flash and honestly, Wet n Wild’s claims were spot on! No flash back. The coverage, the wear time, the photo focus abilites— everything and all for $5.99!! I sound like one of those infomercials but I promise you it’s that good. Only one draw back…the smell. It smells like the paint section of Home Depot. It smells like a fresh barrel of paint being opened up. However, once on your face, you can’t smell the product at all. It doesn’t linger or anything. It might be a deal breaker for some people but I figured I would warn you!
L.A. Girl Pro Coverage Foundation ($8.99): I don’t want to dive super deep into this one because I did a full review not too long ago. If you want to know my in depth deep dark secrets (more like thoughts) then click here! The short and sweet of that post: it’s great. The foundation is medium coverage with a satin finish. It lasts all day without breaking up on my forehead or around my mouth. It does oxidize sometimes not with every time I’ve worn it but it has a few times. Not sure why it only happens sometimes. There are only 7 shades in this range, one of them being white… super lame. HOWEVER, it may or may not be a dupe for a beloved high-end foundation! You’ll have to check out the full review for that tid-bit.
Milani Conceal + Perfect 2-in-1 Foundation + Concealer ($10): For real, who is naming these foundations?! This foundation is super cool. It’s full coverage because of the foundation and concealer combo. If you’re in a hurry, you can totally knock out two birds with one stone with this little guy! This foundation wears for a super long time as well. It’s a little heavier on the skin. You definitely know you have makeup on but again it’s because of the foundation and concealer mixture. I have noticed that I will get shiny on my forehead throughout the day but that’s nothing a little blotting paper can’t take care of. The one downside of it is that it oxidizes every single time! It drives me nuts! I suggest that if you’re going to try this foundation to get a shade lighter than you normally would because it oxidizes and turns darker. Doesn’t take away from how much I love this foundation just adds to the headache sometimes of when I’m getting ready. On the plus side, there are 15 shades in the range!
Sonia Kashuk Soft Focus Satin Matte Foundation ($12.99): My oily girls I didn’t leave you hanging!! Truthfully, I really think you can wear this even without oily skin. Yes, it is a matte finish but it’s a satin matte so your skin isn’t left looking super flat but rather alive while being matte. Does that make sense? The other super cool thing about this foundation is that it has anti-aging properties to it. What, What?! It’s infused with blue lotus, daisy flower, and mallow extracts to brighten, nourish, and protect your skin. I have drier skin and love this foundation. It’s a medium coverage that can be built up to a more fuller-coverage. It’s very lightweight and comfortable on the skin. And the packaging looks so luxe if you ask me! Downside, only 6 shades in the range. WHY SONIA?! *Sonia Kashuk is found only (as far as I know) at Target.
If you’re going to try out any of these foundations, look for coupons, in store deals, or app deals! Drugstore brands have coupons all the time! Rarely do you ever have to pay full price. Also, Amazon has a lot of these products for cheaper than what you’d pay in the store. For Sonia Kashuk, the Target Cartwheel App has coupons for the brand sometimes. Go out and dip your faces into some new and exciting foundations! What is your favorite drugstore foundation?
