The makeup industry can be compared to the music or movie industry. There are your best sellers, your top grossing, greatest hits, etc. Brands like Too Faced, Smashbox, Urban Decay those are your box office winners. These are the ones you will most often hear people talking about and gravitating towards. Nothing wrong with that, don’t get me wrong! These brands are fantastic and I too am a huge supporter of these brands. Some of my favorite products are sold by them. However, like the music and movie industries, there are always the indie titles. These little guys are up and coming. They don’t have the same exposure or audience following just yet. Too Faced didn’t one day wake up and become the Beyoncé of cosmetics; it took continual successful products and consumer word of mouth. Ciaté is one of those indie brands. I believe it is relatively new to Sephora (Don’t hate me if I’m wrong, the brand is new to me!). In my book, if your brand is being sold in Sephora’s you’ve made it. Sephora is the Beyoncé, Michael Jackson, Prince, Celine Dion of the cosmetic industry. Ciaté has a huge nail polish line. Their nail polish is actually how I discovered them. And they’re super cute packaging, which is always an attention grab and added bonus. They also sell liquid lipsticks, skincare products for removing makeup, eyeshadow palettes, eyeliner, mascara, etc.
Scrolling through the Sephora sale section is dangerous. Regretfully, I do it a lot. It’s like when you hear a catchy song and have to sing it over and over for weeks on end. As I was scrolling a couple of weeks ago after I purchased the Hourglass Holiday Palette (click here for that review!), I came across this beautiful palette, the Limited Edition Olivia Palermo x Ciaté London Smokey Suedes Eye Palette. Although, I’ve tried Ciaté’s nail polishes, their makeup was new uncharted territory! So naturally, I needed to buy the palette… right? Not to mention RIGHT NOW it is on sale for $19.50 from $39. Who is the real winner here?
First off, this palette is GORGEOUS for autumn time. It has the perfect combination of purple, blue, green, gray, and brown. Added plus right off the bat. The palette is on the smaller size. It says right on the package that it is a compact case. In that sense, it is ideal for traveling. It also has a full size mirror on the inside. Another plus. Normally, I really don’t like super tiny palettes like this because I don’t feel like I’m getting my money’s worth. If I’m going to shell out $40-50 sometimes $60 for a makeup palette, I want it to have hunka chunka pans of fantastic pigment. This little palette though gave me a nice surprise and that’s not just the $19.50 talking!Within the palette you get a total of nine shadows—four matte and five shimmer. I was very impressed with how the matte shades blended. I thought they were very easy to work with and are very smooth to the touch. I really liked how among all these dark colors you still had your staple matte vanilla shade for your lid and a brown transition shade for your crease. The shimmer shades were less pigmented then I would usually want. This was my only disappointment. However, I found a way around it! I found it easier to apply the shimmers to my lid either with a very dense brush or simply with my fingers. This way I was able to build them up to the intensity I wanted. I know these shades are a little intimidating because of how smokey they are. Typically, I would not gravitate towards greens and blues but this palette has really allowed for me to step outside my comfort zone. You can easily create a daytime appropriate look or a super dramatic and dark smokey eye, trust me.
I’ll be honest, when I bought this palette I didn’t really have high hopes. I’m happy to say that whole view point has changed. Since I got the palette, I’ve been using it just about every day! I really love it. For the price tag, I think it’s perfect for anyone who is wanting to try out a higher-end makeup brand but not wanting to splurge so much. Also, I think it is great for those of you who travel frequently like I do for the simple fact of its size. Lastly, these colors are beautiful for the season or just in general; I really don’t think you’d be disappointed! Although, I did not pay full price for this palette, I wouldn’t hesitate to for the next time I purchase from Ciaté!
*Keep in mind this is a limited edition palette and it is in the sale section of Sephora.com. I’m not sure how much longer it will be there so if you want it, don’t hesitate!
