With my fiancé being in the military there is a lot of traveling. No matter if I’m coming or he is going, there is always a mad dash to get everything we need to get done in the short time frame we have. That being said, I like to think of myself as an expert traveler these days. No matter how many times I’ve done the journeys to wherever he is, a couple of things stay pretty constant…1. I get super anxious and usually cry when trying to find my gate (with the amount I fly in a year you would think I have it together by now) 2. I get weird looks from people for crying (I should wear a sign “sorry anxious flyer, look away”) 3. I’m too short to put my bag in the overhead compartment and I usually have to ask for help 4. My makeup bag is always in my carry on fully functional and ready to go. I would rather lose my entire suitcase than my carryon with my makeup. That bag took me a very long time (and a lot of money if we’re being honest) to get perfect! With all this travel, I have my makeup down to a science. But I still wait until the last couple of hours to pack my actual suitcase.
The items I take are pretty simple. If I can, I like to bring pieces that have multiple products in them. For example, BECCAxJaclyn Hill highlighting palette is ideal. Within the one palette is a highlight and blush. Two less individual items I have to pack and the palette itself has multiple blush and highlight options. If I can’t bring a product that has multiple functions like the BECCA one, I will opt for travel size. Travel size is ideal for TSA reasons if you’re not going to check your bags, or if you’re like me and you’re obsessed and would rather not eat for a week than have to throw out a tube of primer because it’s over the limit. Okay, okay, that’s extreme but you get my point!
In addition to the travel sizes and multi-function palettes, I suggest bringing only one eyeshadow palette. This is probably the one item that fluctuates every time I travel. Currently, I am in a very committed relationship with the Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance palette. Moment of silence for its beauty… If you love warm tones it is a MUST in your collection. It has the most amazing blend of neutrals, pinks, and deeper browns. You really can go for a deep and sultry look or a classic daytime shimmer. The point being, this palette is super versatile and if it is the only one I am bringing then I want something that I can go in any direction with. The best part of this whole travel bag is that it all fits snuggly in my carryon. I can zipper the whole thing up and everything has a place. The bag I am using now is from Target. It is part of the Orla Kelly collection and it was only $15!
Actually sitting on the plane though, I won’t open my makeup bag. To be honest, once I’m in my seat and fastened, I won’t move until we’re back on the ground. Anxious flyer…wasn’t kidding. When I get to my seat I do a couple of quick things. 1. Doubt myself that I’m on the right flight 2. Text my fiancé a 100 times to make sure he knows when I’ll land exactly, as if he’d forget. 3. Pull out my gum 4. Grab my chapstick, hand cream, earbuds, and face mask. You probably are totally picturing me right now with a full on sheet mask on my face during a flight. But alas, that too would probably make me even more anxious that I already am when I fly and lets not poke the bear any more than we need to! It should be noted that I do not wear any makeup when I fly. The mask I use looks like a face cream. It is completely clear once you put it on your face and you can leave it on the entire duration of your flight. For flying, I love the Glam Glow Thirsty Mud mask. Holy bananas. This mask will make your face feel like a tall glass of water after a beautiful summer hike. The air on the plane can make your face super dry and just feel gross but this will prevent it. Not to mention the mask sort of smells like coconuts so who is the real winner here? If you feel silly, you can always apply the mask after the flight and it’ll still bring all that moisture back to your skin. AND the mask comes in travel size! Winner winner chicken dinner. Having these little silly routines really does help me with my anxiety when I fly.
I hope these little tips of how I pack my bag help you! Leave me a comment about what you put in your travel bag or what your routine is! Lord knows I’ll be in the air again soon enough and I would love to try something new!
